Empathy: Surveys V2

Explain the difference between cognitive empathy and emotive empathy. Then describe one specific situation while driving where using cognitive empathy could help you respond more safely and calmly to another driver.

The material discusses how anonymity inside a vehicle can lead to a sense of deindividuation. In your own words, explain what this means and how it can contribute to aggressive or reckless driving behavior.

Why is practicing empathy important for safe driving, even when other drivers are behaving poorly or dangerously? Use ideas from the material to support your answer.

How might understanding that another driver could be dealing with a behavioral disorder (as discussed earlier in the course) influence the way you think about or respond to their actions on the road? Give at least one example.
